If you are the type to take your 4×4 to the local mountain trail or to the beach, it is important to give your car a good thorough clean after each trip as dust, dirt and salt build-up can cause issues in the long run.
Using a range of Autoglym products, we’ll give you a quick run down on how to protect and bring back the shine of your car’s paintwork and under chassis.
Under Body and wheel tubs
Begin by hosing the under side of your car to remove easy to remove mud build-up, while paying extra attention to your brakes, suspension and working mechanical parts which may have trapped debris. Avoid using a high-pressure hose to further push mud into hard to reach components.
Spray a generous amount of Autoglym Engine & Machine Cleaner onto the underbody and agitate any stubborn build up with a stiff brush. After leaving the cleaner on for 5-10 mins simply hose all the dirt away.
Finish off by applying a layer of Autoglym Vinyl Rubber care to the wet surface and allow to dry, giving the area a protective coating.
Wheels
Begin by high pressure hosing off any easy to remove mud from your wheels and tyres.
Depending on the finish of your wheels, apply a generous amount of Autoglym Clean Wheels or Autoglym Custom Wheel Cleaner directly on to the spokes and inner wheel barrel. We recommend hosing, cleaning and rinsing the cleaning solution one wheel at a time to avoid the cleaner drying up.
Use a wheel brush or sponge to agitate the cleaner, concentrating on any dirt-trapped areas – and don’t forget the tyre wall.
Once the wheels are spotless, simply rise off the cleaner and let the wheels dry.
Once the wheels are dry, apply a coat of Autoglym Instant Tyre Dressing to bring back sheen to your tyres – by applying a tyre dressing you also make cleaning easier in the future.
Body
Thoroughly hose bodywork to rinse away excess dirt as particles may scratch your paint while cleaning. Shake and pour 2-3 capfuls of Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner into a 10-litre bucket of water, washing from the roof down with a clean sponge or wash mitt at pace to avoid the shampoo drying. It‘s important to rinse frequently into a clean bucket of water to avoid dirt buildup on your washing sponge or mitt.
Finally you want to hose off any remaining shampoo that’s left on the car. You can apply a layer or Autoglym Rapid Aqua Wax while the car is wet to give it a protective wax if you’re up to the task; you simply spray two sprays on each panel and proceed to chamois the car as normal with either a Hi-Tech Microfibre Drying Towel or Autoglym Hi-Tech Aqua Dry.
If there any contaminants don’t come off during the regular wash, we recommend going over the car with a Surface Detailing Clay Kit followed by a good coat of our flagship Autoglym High Definition Wax.
Now your 4×4 clean and protected, ready for your next adventure!
